Washboard Factory Tour, Lunch at Olde Dutchman & Sweets at Penny's Pastries
The Columbus Washboard Company has been manufacturing hand-made washboards since 1895 and continues to offer a range of vintage laundry items and Appalachian gifts. You'll find fine soaps, vintage products, and custom washboards suitable for home decoration, bluegrass jam bands, and doing the laundry like Grandma used to do at their factory. From 1926 until 1988, the Columbus Washboard Company produced and sold over 23,000,000 washboards!
We'll have lunch at The Olde Dutch Restaurant and Banquet Haus, a homestyle restaurant in Logan which sits at the edge of a stand of stately oaks that Logan natives have called Rempel’s Grove for over 100 years. In the 1840’s, the site was used as a community picnic ground.
Today, the rail line still runs through Rempel’s Grove and the old tow paths from the canal can be seen along the Hocking River. The Olde Dutch Restaurant opened in Rempel’s Grove in August of 1994 to provide a family restaurant inspired, trained and supplied by Ohio’s Amish Country restaurants.
On the way home, we'll stop for a sweet treat at Penny's Pastries.
